About the book
Gabriella has built her career on the belief that careful observation can turn silence into knowledge. At a research institute, Sura, a genetically modified gorilla, begins making gestures that appear to carry meaning across reinforced glass. At home, Gabriella cares for Maria, her profoundly disabled daughter, whose smallest movements resist every easy interpretation.
When supervised visits bring Sura and Maria into the same room, scientific curiosity, institutional ambition, and intimate hope become impossible to separate. An incident follows. The records are accurate. They are also incomplete.
Blessing is a restrained literary novel about animal intelligence, care, projection, and the dignity of leaving some gestures unanswered.
