About the book
Jane arrives at university from a provincial town where the language of her childhood has no official standing. The campus promises access through interpreters, forms, and carefully worded accommodations. Yet each provision asks her to become legible in terms the institution already understands.
As Jane moves between classrooms, administrative offices, and the people who speak on her behalf, translation becomes more than a linguistic task. It determines who is heard, who is delayed, and who must cross alone. The narrator, once confident in the fairness of the system, begins to see how readily a bridge can become a checkpoint.
Bridge is a novel about language, education, belonging, and the unequal cost of being understood.
