About the book

Douglas knows the railway curve by the pressure it places on a carriage before the instruments register anything unusual. He reports what he has felt. The complaint is logged, reviewed, and returned to the timetable.

When an ordinary journey becomes an accident, the railway must explain how a system built on procedures failed in a place everyone believed they understood. A uniform, a driver, a maintenance history, and a sequence of small decisions are arranged into a cause. What cannot be arranged is treated as noise.

Curve is a tense literary novel about transport, institutional certainty, and the distance between a hazard being known and a system allowing itself to know it.
