About the book

Amit returns to the Dhalana River carrying his father's notebook, a record of levels, agreements, and changes that official reports have learned not to see. The Nagra Republic is recognised when its rare earths are needed and ignored when its people ask who owns the water beneath them.

As extraction expands, the language of development collides with the ordinary work of drinking, farming, and remaining in place. Citizenship becomes a question of whose measurements count and whose losses can be entered as acceptable.

Dignity is a clear-eyed novel about water, sovereignty, inheritance, and the price of being visible to the world only as a resource.
